Serve Iowa

In conjunction with the United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties, UI Student United Way and Leadership & Service Programs is dedicated to improving health, education, and income by connecting students to the local community through service and advocacy. In order to accomplish this, we implemented the Serve Iowa initiative in October 2017. Leadership & Service Programs and Student United Way Ambassadors coordinate with United Way's existing nonprofit partners to offer weekly volunteer opportunities to all University of Iowa students.

The purpose of Serve Iowa is to provide easily accessible avenues for engagement with the local community through service. In order to decrease existing barriers, we provide transportation for students to participate. This initiative uniquely connects students to community partners in an effort to enhance the town gown relationship. In addition, students gain valuable leadership experiences through service and intentional reflection.

We have six community partners that we visit bi-weekly. Those partners are all located in and serve the Iowa City community. Descriptions for each partner and dates of events can be found below. To sign up for an event please visit the Student United Way page on Engage.
